About Mel Leaman Clinic
Our Mission
At Mel Leaman Free Clinic, our mission is to enhance the health of under-served patients in Southwest Virginia. We strive to provide high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care to those in need.
Complementing the great staff and volunteers of the MLFC, faculty from the School of Health Sciences Departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, & Athletic Training programs volunteer their time to provide clinical services to the patients of the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry.
In addition, through a collaboration with Wytheville Community College’s Dental Hygiene program, faculty from that program will also provide regular dental hygiene services for patients at our facility.
Together, the multiple staff, volunteers, and volunteer providers and their highly comprehensive services represent a unique collection of healthcare opportunities for some of the most under-served residents of the region, providing multiple primary and specialty care services right within our campus building. To our knowledge, the level of services is beyond what other free clinics in the Nation are able to offer. Just another example of how Emory & Henry and the Mel Leaman Free Clinic set and implement higher goals to live a mission of service towards Appalachian residents.
